The EU Ombudsman has launched an inquiry into how the European Commission prepared its ‘Omnibus Simplification Package’. This follows a complaint brought by eight civil society organisations against the European Commission.
The complaint was about the Commission’s alleged failure to comply with its ‘Better Regulation Guidelines’ in preparing the legislative proposal to amend the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive and the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive.
The complainants argue that the Commission departed from procedure and failed to carry out a public consultation and an impact assessment.
